Learn Module Detail

The distinction of New Zealand using the two-rod system, rather than one is important when it comes to removal as you must be sure you are removing all the implants that are in the arm. The consistency of single rod systems and Jadelle mean experienced practitioners in both can tell the difference but if you are not sure then it is critical you confirm, either by establishing the details of the insertion or ordering appropriate investigations.

Why is Specific Training Required?

  • Minimizes complications: Proper training reduces the risk of complications, such as:
    • Prolonged or difficult removal
    • Neurovascular injury
    • Infection
    • Scarring
  • Patient safety and comfort: Trained providers can perform the procedure with minimal discomfort and anxiety for the patient.
  • Adherence to standards: Training aligns with the Long-acting Reversible Contraception: Health Practitioner Training Principles and Standards set by the Ministry of Health.

Before beginning this course, ensure you have met all prerequisites, as outlined on the LARC training guide page.

This module will cover the theory and practical training requirements for Jadelle removal. Upon completion of all criteria, trainees should connect with a LARC trainer to begin practical training (a list of trainers in provided in the course information).
