This course is designed to provide training and experience in adult education and clinical training, and relevant train-the-trainer approaches.
This is a full day, face-to-face course with a 1 to 3/4 facilitator to participant ratio.
The goal is for participants to be confident and competent to train other health professionals in LARC insertion and removal.
Before being accepted onto the course, participants must provide evidence that they fulfil the national LARC Trainer criteria prior to attending the face-to-face course, including:
-
providing the specified LARC at a frequency that maintains confidence and competency (i.e., at least 10 procedures on average for each type of LARC procedure annually)
-
demonstrating cultural and youth-friendly practice
-
competence as per the LARC Health practitioner training principles and standards for LARC insertion and/or removal, and experience in more complex insertions and removals, including managing side effects and complications
-
familiarity with the New Zealand Aotearoa Guidance on Contraception, and the theory components that trainees have completed (including the NCTS contraceptive counselling and IUC/contraceptive insertion and removal online courses, or the equivalent courses that have been completed by their trainee)
-
completion of the National Contraception Training Service (NCTS) contraceptive counselling online course (or equivalent) and the NCTS IUC and/or implant courses (or equivalent).
If you have not done so already, please complete the LARC Train the Trainer expression of interest form and submit to administration@nzcsrh.org.nz along with all relevant documentation.
After attending the workshop, participants are expected to train another health professional, submit feedback from their trainee, and provide a self-reflection on their experience of training.
Ongoing peer support will be available for participants through regular NZCSRH Zoom meetings, with a facilitator present.
